January 6, 2014 Downing Mountain Backcountry

With a foot of fresh on the upper mountain and 2-3″ at the lodge, we skied up Downing Mountain on the beautiful high pressure day of Jan 6, 2014. What a great day of skinning in the sunshine chatting and enjoying the forest, followed by some high quality powder skiing on the Crown Bowl always a highlight to ski. With 3-5 feet of snow on the upper mountain and 1-2 feet in the gully, we are running about an average low year. Snow is in the forecast for the next week, bringing a breakdown to the High Pressure off the west coast and the subsequent westerly zonal flow with abundant moisture both subtropical and north pacific. Looks like were in for another good season.
